DEXA Bone Density Scans
Osteoporosis affects more than 50% of women and 30% of men over 60. Sadly, most sufferers only learn they have fragile bones when they break one, leading to life changing consequences.
But osteoporosis is largely preventable and treatable. Getting a DEXA bone density scan is the best way to identify your risk of osteoporosis and reduced bone strength, which is the first step in preventing both.
A DEXA scan is a quick, safe and painless procedure, it’s now available at Greyscale Ultrasound based in Five Rivers Medical, and there’s no need for a referral.

MSK - Musculoskeletal Ultrasound
Musculoskeletal (MSK) ultrasounds provide detailed imaging of muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joints. Ideal for diagnosing injuries like sprains, tears, and inflammation, they assist in assessing conditions such as arthritis or tendonitis.
This non-invasive, radiation-free procedure offers real-time visuals, aiding in accurate diagnosis and treatment planning for quicker recovery. MSK ultrasounds are especially beneficial for athletes, those with chronic pain, or individuals recovering from injuries.

Obstetric Ultrasound / Pregnancy Exams
Obstetric ultrasounds, or pregnancy examinations, provide essential imaging to monitor the health and development of your baby.
From confirming pregnancy to assessing growth, position, and well-being, these examinations offer vital insights at every stage.
Non-invasive and safe, they help identify potential complications early, ensuring peace of mind for expectant parents. Obstetric ultrasounds are key to personalised care and a healthy pregnancy journey.

Vascular Ultrasound
Vascular ultrasounds provide detailed imaging of blood vessels, including arteries and veins, to assess circulation and detect issues such as blood clots, blockages, or varicose veins.
This non-invasive, radiation-free procedure helps diagnose conditions like deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or peripheral artery disease (PAD).
By offering real-time insights, vascular ultrasounds support early intervention and effective treatment, promoting better vascular health and reducing the risk of serious complications.

General Scans
General ultrasounds offer versatile imaging for a wide range of medical assessments, including abdominal organs, soft tissues, and glands.
These non-invasive scans help diagnose issues such as gallstones, kidney problems, or liver abnormalities, providing detailed insights for accurate treatment planning.
Safe and radiation-free, general ultrasounds are ideal for monitoring various health conditions, ensuring early detection and proactive care tailored to your needs.
Ultrasound Preparation
Preparation is important, please call to discuss if you have any questions or concerns regarding the following. We are flexible and understand that in some circumstances the preparation may not be possible.
- Abdominal ultrasound
Fasting (nothing to eat or drink) for 8–12 hours before the exam. This helps prevent gas buildup that could affect the results. For morning appointments, you shouldn’t eat or drink anything after 8 PM the night before. For afternoon appointments, you can have a light breakfast and plenty of fluids before 9 AM.
- Bladder ultrasound/Renal
Empty the Bladder 1 hour before the exam. Consume 1 Liter of WATER before one hour before the exam. The examination requires a full bladder to help visualize the bladder wall, surrounding organs (prostate, bowel, ovaries and uterus), measure the bladder volume and be able to assess the residual volume. Maintaining a full bladder may cause some temporary discomfort.
A full bladder is all that is necessary if you are bursting or on the verge of incontinence, this is not helpful to you or us. You can partially relieve yourself.
- Liver fibrosis ultrasound
Requires fasting for 8 hours prior to the procedure. - Pregnancy Ultrasound (filling the bladder is important!)
Dating Full Bladder
Nuchal translucency Full Bladder
Morphology (20 week exam) Full Bladder
Third Trimester (growth exam) No full bladder required.
